Many people believe that gay individuals were born that way. As such, they consider homoerotic desires and activities outside people's control to change or fix and conclude they are recused from accountability to God because of it.
But are they correct?
According to the Bible, every individual is born with a sinful nature that is outside their control to change or fix. Possessing a sinful nature means people inherently desire to do what is contrary to God’s standard of holiness and morality laid out in Scripture (see Leviticus 18:22-30; 20:13; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and Romans 1:26-32 for some examples).
Additionally, every individual encounters temptations to act upon their sinful nature's desires, which are also out of their control to avoid (1 Corinthians 10:13; Hebrews 4:15). However, temptations to sin and committing sins are distinctly different things. Such is the case with same-sex desires versus gay or lesbian activities.
The Bible is clear that God gave every person free will to make decisions, whether pure or sinful. He also provided parameters for morality that apply to every human, part of which excludes all sexual activity outside marriage between one biological male and one biological female. As such, the following acts violate God's standard for purity:
Sexual relations between biological males and biological females who are not married to each other (fornication, adultery, molestation, rape)
Sexual relations between partners of the same biological gender or sex (homosexuality, bisexuality, pansexuality, omnisexuality, lesbianism [LBGTQ+])
Sexual relations between humans and animals (bestiality)
Consequently, when individuals are sexually tempted and willfully engage in intimate activities that fall short of God’s prescribed purity standard, they sin and are accountable to God for their immorality (Romans 14:12).
Based upon these simple truths about sinful natures, temptations, and willful choices, individuals are not born gay but choose their homoerotic lifestyle by intentionally indulging their sexual cravings and lusts for one another. Or as James 1:14-15 described, “Each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.”
These truths not only apply to gay individuals but everyone who practices a sinful lifestyle, regardless of its type. All sin is unrighteousness, and all unrighteousness brings spiritual and eternal death to those who live according to it (Romans 3:23, 6:23).
I hope this information helped you understand why people are not born gay and equipped you to answer those who claim otherwise.
