Many Christians question their salvation at times. In fact, doubt is one of Satan’s most potent and powerful weapons against us. He uses it to undermine our faith and instill fear into our hearts and minds by getting us to question God's Word.
In Genesis 2:16-17, God's first words to Adam were, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Not surprisingly, Satan's first recorded words to Eve were, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1).
Notice how Satan twisted God’s words and added things God never said. This act was intentional to cause Eve to doubt God’s command and sin — and it worked. Therefore, doubt is a common and powerful weapon used against us because it is often successful.
Combatting doubts about our salvation is simple: we must know God’s written Word and trust what it says. God intentionally gave us a written record of His commands, truths, and principles so we would have something in writing to cling to when doubts, uncertainties, and attacks come our way.
Therefore, when you begin to doubt your salvation despite trusting Jesus by faith for it, ask Jesus to help you believe what His Word says and stop relying on how you feel. Finally, read the verses that are linked below, committing one or two of them to memory.
Remember, trusting God's Word instead of relying on what you think or feel is the most effective weapon against doubting your salvation.
