Sharing the gospel with an atheist is challenging because they not only reject the Bible as the only divinely inspired manuscript in existence but deny God's existence altogether. These facts can leave you feeling powerless to reach them.
However, there are some thought-provoking questions you can ask an atheist to help them see the impossibility of concluding that God does not exist. One question to ask is, “How many grains of sand are there on all the world’s beaches combined?" Another is, “How many hairs are on a fully grown male Tibetan Yak?” The correct answer to these questions is, “I don’t know,” because knowing requires absolute knowledge of each subject.
Let me put it another way. If I were to claim, “No gold exists in Germany,” I would need absolute knowledge of every square inch of that country. I would have to thoroughly look under every rock and in every cave and body of water. I would have to excavate every inch of land, including all mountains and hillsides. I would also have to visit every jewelry store, look at every person’s teeth, and systematically search every house, bank vault, and gravesite to claim with absolute certainty that no gold exists in Germany. However, to prove that “Gold does exist in Germany,” I would only need to find one gold speck in that entire country.
No individual has absolute knowledge of everything that can be known. Therefore, an atheist’s assertion that God does not exist is not only problematic and speculative but utterly false. There is no possible way to prove there is no God. However, there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary, which is one reason why exposing the impossibility of their claim is a first step toward paving the way to share the gospel.
I hope this basic information helps equip you for encountering atheists when sharing your faith.
