How will every eye see Jesus when He returns?

The Bible plainly states that every eye will see Jesus when He returns at His second coming. Revelation 1:7 says, “Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.”

Likewise, Jesus declared in Matthew 24:26-27, “So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.”

The Bible also discloses where Jesus will return, which is the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. It says in Acts 1:10-12, “And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He [Jesus] was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.' Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away."

Zechariah 14:4 confirms this fact, stating, “In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south.”

However, despite the Bible's declaration that every eye will see Jesus upon His return and providing the location of His second coming, it does not disclose how everyone will see Him when He sets foot on the earth. Therefore, we can only speculate on that aspect:

  • Perhaps someone will capture Jesus' return on video and it will be aired on every news outlet around the world. It could also go instantly viral online, allowing people to witness it globally.

  • Maybe Jesus' glory will be so magnificent that it will flood the skies worldwide, enabling everyone to see it regardless of their location (like lightning in the east can be seen in the west).

  • It may be that God will enable people around the globe to witness Jesus’ return supernaturally.

Regardless, we are assured that everyone on the earth will see Jesus when He comes back, even if we do not know or understand “how.”
