When Jesus returns to the earth to rule and reign for 1,000 years, He will defeat the Antichrist and the false prophet and throw them alive into the Lake of Fire. Revelation 19:19-21 says, “And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.”
Immediately after Jesus defeats the Antichrist and false prophet, He will bind Satan for 1,000 years and cast him into the bottomless pit before physically ruling and reigning from Jerusalem. Revelation 20:1-3 states, “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.”
With Satan bound in the bottomless pit and the Antichrist and false prophet suffering in the lake of fire, Jesus will rule Planet Earth in absolute righteousness for 1,000 years. It will be an unparalleled time of peace for those who survived the Great Tribulation and all who were born during that time. Isaiah 11:8-9 says, “The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
It also says in Isaiah 32:16-20, “Then justice will dwell in the wilderness and righteousness will abide in the fertile field. And the work of righteousness will be peace, and the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, and in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places; and it will hail when the forest comes down, and the city will be utterly laid low. How blessed will you be, you who sow beside all waters, who let out freely the ox and the donkey.”
Additionally, Micah 4:2-3 declares, “Many nations shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.’ For out of Zion the law shall go forth, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and rebuke strong nations afar off; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (See also Isaiah 2:3-4 and 65:19-25, and Psalm 72:8-19.)
Despite Satan’s inability to tempt or deceive anyone during this unique time on the earth, the sinful natures of those living in their natural, physical bodies will still be intact. Therefore, the Millennium will be a time of imposed righteousness with swift and just consequences administered for disobedience. Revelation 19:15 states, “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.”
All believers from heaven who returned to the earth with Jesus had their sinful natures eradicated when they received their glorified bodies at the rapture. Therefore, they will rule and reign with Jesus for 1,000 years in sinless perfection. Their job will be to help Jesus govern those inhabiting and repopulating the earth and enforce the righteousness He requires. 1 Corinthians 6:2-3 states, “Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?”
It also states in Revelation 20:4 and 6, “Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years...Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.”
At the end of the 1,000 years, Jesus will release Satan from the bottomless pit, but only for a limited time. Satan will then go out to deceive the nations and entice those on the earth to revolt against Jesus and His righteousness. Those who rebel will follow Satan’s lead to surround Jerusalem and wage war against the Saints. However, Jesus will swiftly consume them with fire and cast Satan into the lake of fire for eternity. Revelation 20:7-10 says, “When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore. And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”
Following this unprecedented event, God’s judgment of all people will commence. Believers will receive rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ, and unbelievers will be judged for their sins and sentenced to the lake of fire. God will then create a new heaven and earth for all believers to dwell with Him for eternity.
