Does God recognize genderqueer and transgender marriages?
Before we can answer with certainty whether God recognizes genderqueer and transgender marriages, we must understand three facts from Scripture:
First, God created two genders exclusively: male and female. Consequently, every individual is either a biological male or biological female created in God’s image, regardless of their gender identification preferences, choices, or practices.
Genesis 1:27 says, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
Matthew 19:4 says, “And He answered and said, ‘Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female?’”
Second, God created marriage as a sacred and binding covenant between one biological man and one biological woman for life.
Genesis 2:21-25 says, “So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’ For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
Matthew 19:4-6 says, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
Third, God does not approve of, support, or condone gay, genderqueer, or transgender lifestyles because they oppose His will, plan, and divine design for humanity.
Jude 1:7 says, “In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.”
Judges 19:22-23 says, “While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, ‘Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him.’ The owner of the house went outside and said to them, ‘No, my friends, don’t be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don’t do this outrageous thing.’”
Leviticus 18:22-24 says. “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion. Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you.”
Leviticus 20:13 says, “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”
Romans 1:26-27 says, “For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 says, “Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Considering these biblical facts about gender, marriage, and God’s stance on gay, genderqueer, and transgender lifestyles, any union involving two individuals of the same biological gender constitutes a gay relationship regardless of their gender identification preferences, choices, or practices. Consequently, God does not recognize these relationships as marriages but renders them as sexually immoral unions.
Here are some scenarios that illustrate this truth:
A biological man who is married to another biological man who identifies or lives as a woman constitutes a gay relationship because their marriage comprises two males regardless of their gender identification preferences, practices, or choices.
A biological woman who is married to another biological woman who underwent gender reassignment surgery to “become a man” and identifies (and lives) as a man constitutes a gay relationship because their marriage consists of two females regardless of any surgical gender modifications.
A biological man who is married to a biological woman who wrestles with her identity or gender is a valid marriage because they meet God’s criteria for marital unions, which is one biological male united with one biological female in matrimony.
I hope this information sheds light on this confusing and complicated marriage question in today’s world.
